Monovant Unveils Rheon Bronze Timepieces with Gradient Dials

Instructions

Monovant, a burgeoning Greek horology firm, has expanded its esteemed Rheon series with the introduction of the Rheon Bronze, a new collection that refines the understated elegance established by its forerunner, the Royal Lapis. This new offering maintains the core principles of simplicity, robustness, and a nod to Hellenic heritage, but elevates the aesthetic with sophisticated new dial and material choices. The latest timepieces feature intricately textured fumé dials available in warm brown or cool blue, encased in a distinctive marine-grade bronze, promising both durability and a unique evolving character.

The Royal Lapis, launched previously, captivated enthusiasts with its straightforward yet regal design, highlighted by a deep blue lapis lazuli dial. It embodied a philosophy of essentialism, a quality deeply rooted in Greek thought. The Rheon collection, as a whole, draws its creative wellspring from ancient Greek culture and mythical narratives. This foundation continues to inform the design ethos of the Rheon Bronze, offering a timepiece that combines reliable Swiss mechanics with an inspired, visually compelling presentation within a tonneau-shaped enclosure.

A notable departure from its predecessor, the Rheon Bronze eschews the lapis lazuli for a meticulously crafted fine-grain textured fumé dial. This gradient effect, available in brown or blue, adds a layer of visual depth. The dial's functionality is enhanced by carved indices marking the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, complemented by 60 minute markers, which are rendered in bronze accents. These minute markers subtly frame the dial, creating an optical illusion of a circular display within the tonneau case. The aesthetic is further enhanced by new rose gold hands, which boast a sharper, more angular profile compared to the Royal Lapis, and are generously filled with Super-LumiNova C3 for exceptional low-light legibility.

Another refined detail is the complete absence of a brand logo on the dial, a choice that will appeal to collectors who favor a minimalist, uncluttered face. The brown dial seamlessly integrates with the case's tonality, while the blue variant provides a striking contrast. The watch maintains a comfortable and versatile wearability, with dimensions of 40mm in diameter, a 47mm lug-to-lug distance, and a slender 9.6mm thickness. The case material itself is a significant update, switching from steel to marine-grade bronze. This material is not only prized for its strength and resistance to corrosion but also for its ability to develop a unique, warm gold-brown patina over time, personalizing each watch to its wearer. The semi-polished finish gives the bronze a refined matte appearance, suitable for diverse occasions.

The reverse side of the watch features an engraved caseback made from grade-5 titanium, showcasing an owl clutching an olive branch. While Monovant has not explicitly detailed the symbolism, this motif strongly evokes Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, whose sacred animal was the owl, often associated with the olive tree. Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal, treated with anti-reflective coatings on both sides to ensure optimal clarity and vivid display of the dial's colors and textures. With a screw-down crown and water resistance up to 50 meters, the Rheon Bronze is built for daily wear, capable of withstanding splashes and light rain. Completing the ensemble is a handcrafted leather strap, expertly fashioned in Greece from Italian calf leather, featuring dark-tanned edges that harmoniously complement the bronze case's warm hues.

At the heart of the Rheon Bronze beats the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, a respected and dependable alternative to the ETA 2824. This movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve. It is presented here in a no-date configuration with a D3 refined decoration, and notably incorporates a proprietary carbon-fiber ring designed to augment shock resistance. The Rheon Bronze is a limited edition, with only 50 pieces available for each dial color. Each timepiece is priced at EUR 1,250, with early purchasers benefiting from a 15% pre-order discount before deliveries commence.
