A series of community-focused events is set to take place in June, aimed at raising funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. Residents from Moundsville and Cameron are invited to participate in these activities, which promise a mix of entertainment and education. The Moundsville Healthcare Center (HCC) will host an automobile exhibition, while the Cameron HCC plans a Community Night, both designed to engage local communities in meaningful ways.
The car show in Moundsville is scheduled for June 13 and will feature a collection of classic vehicles, with registration open from 4 to 6 p.m. on the same day. Participants can enter their cars for a fee of $10, or pre-register by contacting the organizers. With space for up to 75 cars, the event aims to bring together enthusiasts and supporters. Awards will be given for Best in Show, People’s Choice, and Resident’s Choice, along with dash plaques for all entrants. Special memorabilia, crafted by local artists, will honor the top 20 entries. Additionally, attendees can enjoy refreshments from food vendors and participate in charity auctions that support Alzheimer’s research.
Beyond the thrill of vintage automobiles, the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department will showcase its historic fire truck, celebrating the integral role of volunteer services in the community. Meanwhile, the Cameron HCC Community Night on June 16 offers a platform for local businesses to exhibit their crafts and culinary delights. Attendees can indulge in homemade treats and soups prepared by the center’s culinary director, Dave Minor, who is renowned for his daily soup creations. Proceeds from sales will contribute to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s campaign, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and generosity within the community.
These gatherings not only provide entertainment but also emphasize the importance of supporting caregivers and fostering brain health. By offering respite care and educational resources, the healthcare centers aim to alleviate caregiver stress and promote proactive measures against Alzheimer’s. Such initiatives reflect the strength and solidarity of communities coming together for a shared cause, inspiring hope and action towards healthier futures.
